There will be mandatory changes to the energy efficiency requirements for water heaters this takes place on April 16, 2015. So what does this mean for the average consumer? How will this affect you? Well the first and most obvious is cost. The cost for a water heater is going to be raised so the cost for your Orlando Plumber to install a water heater will go up. This is some of the things that will change.
1. Water heaters above 55 gallons will need to be Hybrid or Condensing models. These type of heaters are more expensive than standard water heaters they usually run about $1000 opposed to the standard electric heaters that are about $250 with requirements for airflow, temperature and space.
2. Water heaters above 20 gallons and below 55 gallons will need to be modified. These will also cost more. They also will be 2″ taller and 2″ wider. This is a big issue for low boy water heaters installed in tight spaces underneath a/c units or in other tight areas where they might not fit anymore.
3. Suppliers and Orlando plumbing contractors can still install older units after the date of April 16, 2015 until supplies run out.
If you have an older water heater that is older than 10 years or in very bad shape we suggest having an Orlando plumbing company install a new one. This will save you on installation costs and if your heater is in a tight space we really suggest replacing the unit before this April dead line.
