Orlando Plumbing Problems: Clogged Drains And October

Everyone that owns a home has gone through it one time or another, clogged drains. They can happen anytime; whether its a kitchen clog, or your whole house clogged it can be a frustrating experience. Most of the time these clogs can be prevented. We at Drain Genie Plumbing Services tend to see an increase in clogs in October and November mostly because of all the cooking that goes on in those months. 

Here is a true story; we got a call from a customer late at night. She was cooking all day, baking pumpkin muffins, cake, and cookies. She was dumping the pumpkin guts down the kitchen sink garbage disposal. After all day her toilet next to the kitchen started bubbling then backed up, she started to plunge and pumpkin debris came gushing out of the toilet! Needless to say she called us and we cleared the drain but this can be prevented. 

Here are some things to watch out for this holiday season:

1. Jamming food and veggie pulp down your drain.  A garbage disposal is only really meant for small waste off a plate not pounds of food.
2. If you’re on septic you should have it looked at by a septic company to make sure it is in good shape especially if you are expecting extra family and visitors.
3. No grease! Don’t dump grease or greasy food into your drain, this will clog your drain and is a nightmare to clean after it gets hard.
