It is 4th of July weekend in Orlando Florida and many families are heading out for a family vacation and leaving their house without doing a few things to prevent plumbing emergencies. Many times people don’t think that their running toilet or leaky faucet are a big deal but you should really fix plumbing issues before you go away or you can come back to major problems. Here are some things that you should check before you leave for vacation.
- Leaking toilets can pose a big problem if you have a clog in your line and your toilet is running because it will eventually fill your drain lines up and cause an overflow. If you where home you could shut the water off and call an Orlando plumber. But with nobody home the water will keep flowing. Solution is if you do not have time to call an Orlando plumber before you leave on vacation and notice your toilet running make sure to shut the valve off to the toilet to prevent overflows.
- Main shut off valve: You should check and make sure your main shutoff valve operates properly. Shut the valve off and go into your home and turn on a faucet. The water should stop flowing but if it does not then you should call an Orlando plumber to install a main shutoff valve, it is well worth the money spent for that repair. Once the valve is added or replaced it is a good idea to shut it off when away on vacation.
- Shut the breaker off to the water heater. Your water heater can over heat and cause the temperature relief valve to blow and if it is just dropped to the floor in your garage this can cause a major flood.
It is best to be prepared and follow these steps to prevent floods and ruining your vacation when you come home to a water damaged home. If you need an Orlando plumber please give Drain Genie Plumbing a call at 407-710-0210. We are available for 24 hour emergency plumbing services.
