Is a City Responsible for Repairing Drain Clogs?

Many of our Longwood and Florida customers ask if the drain clog issue the city’s problem or their own responsibility to fix. There have been many occasions that when the customer sees the drain clog is outside there home they think the city is responsible to make the plumbing repairs. This is most often not the case as it varies from city to city on what is covered but here is how most municipalities work if you have a drain clog from the house to the street. If the clog is located past the sidewalk most cites will come out and clean it out but some cites require you to hire a Local Longwood plumber or a plumber in the Florida area to clean out the drain. If there are roots or a break at the city clean-out then they will fix the break and you are not responsible. Most of the time you are responsible to fix anything from your house to the street clean-out and anything past the city clean-out is the city’s responsibility.  In most cases you will most likely have to hire a local plumber to get your drain clog cleared but in some cases the city is responsible.
